Biography

Olutayo (Tayo) Oyeyemi Oyerinde is an Associate Professor in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. Olutayo received a B.Sc. (Honours) and an MSc degree in 2000 and 2004, respectively, from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria. In 2007, Olutayo secured a DAAD Scholarship to pursue his PhD degree in Electronics Engineering at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. He completed the program in July 2010 and graduated in April 2011.

 

Olutayo joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria, in June 2003 as a Graduate Assistant, and ascended to the position of Lecturer 1 before resigning his appointment in January 2011. Between January 2011 and December 2013, he was a postdoctoral fellow with the School of Engineering, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. In December 2013, Dr Oyerinde joined the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, as a member of the academic staff.

 

Dr Oyerinde is a National Research Foundation (NRF) C2-rated scientist, registered professional engineer (Pr Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), registered engineer (R.Eng) with COREN, Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (SMIEEE), Corporate Member of NSE, among others. Dr Oyerinde has received several research grants, which include the 2023/2024 International Exchanges Grant by the Royal Society (UK), NRF incentive fund (2021-2026), NRF Competitive program for rated researchers (2019-2021), South Africa NRF/ Poland NCBR 2018 Joint Science Technology Research Collaboration fund (2019-2021), NRF incentive fund (2015-2020), NRF Knowledge, Interchange and Collaboration (KIC) 2018, and research development grants for NRF-rated researchers (2017-2019).

 

Olutayo is an Associate Editor for IEEE Communications Letters, IEEE Access, Journal of the Franklin Institute, and Franklin Open and an editorial board member of the International Journal of Sensors, Wireless Communications & Control. In 2021, Dr Oyerinde was appointed as the General Chair of the 15th International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS'2021) and Co-Chair of the technical program committee for the 2021 IEEE AFRICON Conference, Tanzania. He has served as a member of technical program committees for various conferences, including IEEE 94th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2021)-Fall, IEEE 93rd Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC-2021) –Spring, IEEE Wireless Communication and Networking Conference (WCNC-2020), International Conference on Signal Processing and Communication Systems (ICSPCS, Australia, 2018-present), IEEE Wireless Africa conference (2019), South Africa Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (SATNAC, 2013-Present) and IEEE AFRICON Conference (2013-Present).

 

Dr Oyerinde has authored/co-authored over 120 articles in both conference proceedings and journals, one book and three book chapters, and successfully supervised/co-supervised four PhD students, eight MSc students, four MEng students, and 27 Honours students to completion, while six other postgraduate students are currently under his supervision.
